1. Discrimination
Discrimination based on personal attributes is the first and main argument against posting photos in resumes in many Western countries. The explanations are simple here: in connection with anti-discrimination legislation, it is important that the employer pay attention exclusively to the professional qualities of the candidate, and not to the age, race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or appearance of the candidate as a whole.
But you need to understand that the employer can refuse after a personal acquaintance at an interview without indicating a reason. And no one will find out that your smile seemed unfriendly to someone - that is, there is still no open discrimination, since no employer admits this.
2. Bad photo
How many tips do not give, what should be a photo for a resume (business) and what should not be (with extra items or people), there are always those who know better and confidently send frankly bad photos. Or those who are simply non-photogenic. If you belong to one of these groups - do not send your photo, do not experiment.
3. Technology
Large companies automate the processing of resumes and apply special programs to turn resumes into standard blocks of text, based on predefined criteria. Photography is a non-standard unit, and this can lead to technical difficulties in processing resumes.
4. Bad taste
Some recruiters believe that attaching a photo to a resume is naive and not professional. And that your appearance has nothing to do with the ability to do work, unless you are pretending to work as a model or engage in other public activities.
But...
But it is fair to say that Ukrainian employers still pay attention to the appearance of not only models. In the description of vacancies for office positions, leadership positions, in the service sector, one can often find the requirement “presentable appearance”, or even a detailed description of the desired appearance of the candidate.
And most Ukrainian recruiters are really happy with your successful photos, which help to get acquainted in more detail even when considering a resume and find important matches for a candidate for the position in question.
